Will Maruti's traditional customers find the Futuro-e's bold styling too much to take?

by @ashutosh.kumarover 1 year ago0 views8 answers
Maruti's lineup for decades has been conservative, practical designs, and the Maruti Futuro-e concept is a radical departure from that. This shift towards a more aggressive futuristic aesthetic does leave one wondering how the Maruti faithful will take it. The traditional Maruti buyer takes risks and doesn't want flashy designs, but is looking for a car that is reliable, mines fuel and does not need frequent trips to the garage. Such consumers may find the Futuro-e a little too avant garde with its coupe-like roofline and plenty of character lines. The problem that this new direction could be seen as Maruti giving up its very route of existence and its mind set. But this could also be a strategic play to appeal to younger, more style forward buyers and compete with premium brands. The issue is whether Maruti can broaden its appeal without losing its current customers, or whether the Indian market is ready for such a radical change from a brand that is famed for its no frills approach to car design.

Traditional Maruti customers will come around as long as it’s reliable and doesn’t cost a fortune to maintain.

Perhaps this is Maruti’s way of signalling it is ready to compete on a global level. If they could be bold with styling, they could expand beyond India.

I’m afraid it’ll be all glitz, no gauche. Practical, efficient cars are what Maruti is good at and not flashy designs.

They launched NEXA and people said the same thing. Look how that turned out. Sometimes change is good.

The real question is, will it still feel like a Maruti to drive? What matters to their core customers is what matters.

I think they smart enough to give both. We keep the traditional models and add the Futuro-e as a premium option.

Maruti finally stepped up their game, and it’s about time! Bold styling is what they need to attract younger buyers.

This is a big risk for Maruti to take. What their loyal customers want is simple, reliable cars, not some fancy concept designs.
