Will Maruti NEXA Jimny EV's expected higher price point push away its typical budget conscious buyers?

by @ashutosh.kumarover 1 year ago0 views7 answers
For years, the Jimny has been one of the most affordable ways to dive into the capable off roading world. Its impressive capabilities at a relatively low price tag made it a favorite with enthusiasts on a budget. But it's also likely to increase the cost of the vehicle significantly, as it shifts to an electric powertrain. Although it improves, battery technology is still expensive. Such a price hike might make the Jimny EV another market segment, and might even price its traditional customers out of the market. But the costs of running an EV are much lower than an internal combustion vehicle, so over time this higher initial investment might not mean as much. But there's also the question of whether consumers would pay the increased price for added features and performance of the electric version. The question is whether Maruti can preserve the Jimny’s value proposition in the EV version, or if the EV version will need to address a completely different demographic.

It may actually be good for resale value. EV Jimnys will already hold their value well.

The EV should not replace the petrol version, they should keep selling both. Let people have options according to their budget and needs.

Those who are true Jimny fans will pay the premium. This is not only a car, it’s a lifestyle.

To make up for the rise in price, the government incentives for EVs might help. The petrol version could be not that much more expensive.

They might also sell the same thing in different battery sizes to keep a lower entry price. Maximum range is not needed by everyone.

There’s no way the average Jimny buyer can afford an EV version. This is just going to make it a rich person's toy.

It will have to cost more, but consider all the fuel and maintenance savings. It will pay for itself in the end.
