Will India’s Futuro-e electric powertrain be reliable enough for long-distance travel?
Maruti Futuro-e concept was an all electric car, a big change for a brand famous for its petrol cars. The vehicle's practicality in India for long distance travel comes into question with this move into the EV space. Outside of major cities, the country’s charging infrastructure is still developing. Many potential EV buyers have range anxiety. Furthermore, electric powertrains in India are not tried and tested on a mass scale in extreme weather or on varied road surfaces. If Maruti can address these concerns, and deliver a product that is as reliable as their petrol vehicles, the Futuro-e might just succeed. The question is also raised as to whether Maruti should offer hybrids along with full electric versions to help consumers make the switch from hybrids to full electric products.

It’s not all about long distance travel. An EV makes perfect sense being used by most people in daily commutes.

It’s not just about the powertrain when it comes to reliability. The company's service network is unmatched. If they can train their mechanics for EVs, the competition is over.

You guys are missing the point. Maruti has to be the one to lead the way in the future, which is electric. The early adopters will figure it out.

In my opinion, hybrid and full electric versions should be offered by Maruti. Let the infrastructure catch up, and give people options in the meantime.

Charging stations aren't the only thing. How does battery degradation in our hot climate work? That’s gonna affect long term reliability.

If Tata can do it with the Nexon EV, why can’t Maruti? All they need to worry about is battery tech and range.

No way, man. There aren't enough charging stations for us. On long trips, you will be left stranded in the middle of nowhere.
