A lot of KTM 250 XC-F owners have had problems starting their bikes in cold weather. It appears that this problem is more common in newer models with fuel injection systems. Some have found workarounds; others are still struggling. The debate has also raged about how reliable the bike is and KTM's quality control. Potential causes, like fuel mapping, battery issues, or sometimes particular starting techniques, are often talked about. This has become a hot-button topic in the KTM community as riders talk about their experiences and possible solutions.

It's just KTM being KTM. You gotta learn the quirks, like using the cold start knob and not touching the throttle.

Never had an issue with mine. They probably don’t maintain them properly.

It's a real problem. Instead of leaving owners to figure it out, KTM needs to address it.

From the factory, the ECU mapping is too lean. Most of the time it’s just a simple reflash to fix it.

People overblow cold start issues. It's not a big deal once you get the technique down.

Swapping the battery for lithium solved my starting problems.

It's hit or miss. There are some bikes that have issues, and there are some that don't. Luck of the draw, I guess.

In really cold climates, the problem is worse. If you live in a place where it’s warm, you probably won’t notice.
