KTM makes high-performance motorcycles, but there has been some discussion that their bikes, particularly their more complicated models like the RC 390 GP, aren’t very reliable long term. The purpose of this question is to find out exactly what owners with substantial bike mileage on their bikes have experienced. In this article, we’ll take a look at common problems that can occur, how often maintenance is needed, and how the bike fares when used in various conditions. What are the specific weak points to pay attention to? What does KTM’s dealer support and parts availability mean in the ownership experience? If we can gather insights from a range of riders, we can have a better idea of what to expect when owning an RC 390 GP outside the honeymoon period.

I've been going for 20,000 miles, and mine's been rock solid. As long as you keep up with regular maintenance, it’ll treat you right.

Had a few electrical gremlins at the start that KTM fixed via warranty. No issues since.

It’s been reliable, but parts are expensive, and finding some parts can be hard. The trade-off you make for a more exotic bike.

The radiator fan has had to be replaced twice. It seems to be a common weak point.

There aren’t any major issues, but they need service more often than Japanese bikes. For running costs, though, keep that in mind.

I've had problems with the quickshifter; the engine's bulletproof. It's temperamental at best.

These things are surprisingly tough as long as you don’t skimp on oil changes. Mine has survived two track day crashes!
