What does the XEV 9e Pack Three's rear-wheel drive setup do to change the driving dynamics from the norm of front-wheel drive EVs?
Unlike many of its rivals in the electric SUV segment, the XEV 9e Pack Three has rear wheel drive (RWD). The low center of gravity from the battery pack promises a more engaging driving experience with this RWD layout. It makes you wonder, how does this affect handling, traction in different weather conditions, and overall performance feel? Those drivers who are after more sporty dynamics, and perhaps more balanced weight distribution, may like those aspects, while those who are concerned about traction in slippery conditions, or the learning curve for those accustomed to driving front wheel drive vehicles, may have some reservations. However, the debate persists over whether an SUV is the proper vehicle for RWD and how this affects how practical and safe the car is.

I love it! RWD is for future updates to have potential for drift mode. Who says EVs can't be fun?

With the electric motor providing a lot of torque, RWD might be too much. It could be scary for inexperienced drivers.

Mahindra’s move is a bold one. They show they are serious about making EVs fun to drive, not just practical.

With modern traction control, RWD is fine. And you get better steering feel without the front wheels doing all of it.

RWD in an SUV seems odd. But isn’t the whole point of an SUV to have good all weather capability?

RWD will be fantastic for weight distribution. It should handle a lot better than front heavy FWD EVs.

It's also a concern for traction in the rain and snow. Most drivers in different conditions will find FWD more practical.

RWD is the enthusiast’s choice! This will give the XEV 9e a more sporty feel than a regular run of the mill EV.
