What are India’s diverse climate conditions like for the Tata Punch EV?
by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views9 comments
Climate changes drastically throughout India, from hot summers across the north to humid air in many coastal areas, or cold winters in some places. Extreme temperatures significantly impact electric vehicle performance (range, and battery health). Owners and prospective owners talk about how the Tata Punch EV manages to deal with these various conditions. Some users claim that the car suffers noticeable range drops in peak summer heat, while others praise the car's climate control system for keeping them comfortable, without too heavily draining the battery. The long term impact of extreme weather on battery life and Tata's thermal management system is also questioned. The discussion also encompasses how well the Punch EV fares on water logged roads in the monsoons, given the ground clearance and where the battery pack is placed.

I like the fact that the AC cools the cabin so fast, compared to my old ICE car. This is perfect for those hot summer days.

Planning long trips is hard due to the range variability in different weather conditions. You have to be more conservative with your estimates.

It has an impressive climate control system. It won’t drain your battery too much but still keeps a comfortable temperature.

If only Tata had added a heat pump to be more efficient in cold weather. That's a missed opportunity to improve winter performance.

Great ground clearance for Mumbai roads during monsoons. There were no worries about water getting to the battery.

In cold North Indian winters, it struggles a bit. It takes a hit on range and the cabin takes longer to warm up than an ICE car.

It appears that the thermal management system works well. I’ve not seen any unusual battery degradation even after fast charging in hot weather.

In peak Delhi summer, I have seen a big range drop. The heat is frustrating when you can't get within coo of the advertised range.

Indian summers are handled pretty well by the Punch EV. AC is powerful without killing the battery and range drop isn’t as bad as I thought.
