This brings us to the biggest question – how will the MG M9 EV’s range hold up in real Indian driving conditions?

With a single charge, the MG M9 EV can achieve a WLTP certified range of 500 km. But as many EV owners will tell you, real world range can be wildly different to official figures, particularly in challenging driving conditions. Indian roads are a special case, and pose a range of different challenges: heavy traffic and lots of stops in cities, long highway stretches, and varied terrain. In India, especially, heavy usage of climate control in hot weather and the weight of a full family with luggage can substantially reduce range. And then there's the question of how regenerative braking will behave in stop and go traffic. Range anxiety is a real concern for many Indian consumers as electric vehicles are still a relatively new concept for most consumers. Now, we will talk about how the M9 range may translate to real world usage in India and if that is enough for a typical family usage.

I think we're overlooking the charging speed. If it can charge quickly, even if the range is less, it's not a big issue.

The weight of the car worries me. It's a big MPV. That range is going to take a big hit, loaded up with a family and luggage.

Most families aren't actually driving 500km in one go anyway, so let's be real. For daily use, even 300km is more than enough.

The thing I am more worried about is battery degradation over time. It may do 500km now, but what about after two years of Indian summers?

Don't forget about the regenerative braking. That could actually help extend the range in city traffic beyond expectations.

The real question is how it feels on long road trips. Can it run Delhi to Jaipur without a charge? That's the real test.

I think people are too pessimistic. EVs have come a long way. Of course, it doesn’t need to reach 500km, but 400km is plenty for most families.

No way it'll hit 500km in real conditions. You'll be lucky to get 350km between the AC running on full blast and the traffic.
