The WagonR's relatively high seating position: Is a safety feature or is it a rollover risk?
The Maruti WagonR’s tall boy design gives you a higher seating position than most other hatchbacks in its class. Different groups of users and safety experts alike have praised and criticized this feature. Supporters say the added height means drivers have better visibility, allowing them to better maneuver through traffic and perhaps reducing the danger of accidents. It also makes ingress and egress easier, they claim, especially for older passengers or those with mobility issues. But critics note that the higher center of gravity also will raise the risk of rollovers, especially during sudden maneuvers or in accident scenarios. The debates have been around the fact that WagonR design prioritizes everyday convenience over safety in extreme situations. The question extends to the broader question of how different design philosophies in the automotive world make tradeoffs between different aspects of safety and usability.
In my WagonR I feel much safer. With the high seating I have a great view of the road, and I can see potential hazards easily. It's like driving a mini-SUV!
