The monocoque construction of the Hycross affects its durability for the better or worse, compared to the Crysta?

This marks the Innova Crysta shifting from an all body-on-frame construction to a monocoque design in the Hycross. Currently body-on-frame construction is synonymous with ruggedness and durability, more so when the road conditions challenge one like in parts of India. It’s also easy to repair if damaged. However, the monocoque design brings weight saving, better handling and possibly better crash safety. But it does leave one intrigued about the Hycross's capabilities to cope with Indian road conditions, particularly if one lives in a rural or badly maintained area. From whether the Hycross can match up to the Crysta's reliability and ruggedness — long a drawcard for the Innova line — to is it worthy replacement to the sweet spoting Fortuner. It also takes up debates on the aspects of repairability, maintenance costs and long-term reliability in the context of Indian driving conditions and usage pattern.

In many ways, the Hycross is actually more durable with the monocoque construction. It’s lighter and is configured to better absorb impacts.
