The MG Majestor is going to be a big car, but will it be a fuel guzzler?

As a massive D+ segment SUV, naturally fuel efficiency concerns have been raised with the MG Majestor. With fuel prices a big issue for car buyers in the country, the running costs of a car that size could be a big factor in its market success. This is a question of size vs performance vs efficiency for modern SUVs. It also deals with broader factors influencing environmental awareness among Indian car buyers and the purchase decision for premium vehicles based on fuel economy. Are these buyers less concerned about fuel costs, or is efficiency still important? What might MG do about this, using engine technology or hybrid possibilities? It discusses how Indian car buyers' priorities have changed and what the automakers need to do to fulfil their needs for size and efficiency.

And of course it'll be a guzzler, but people buying these enormous SUVs don't care about fuel economy. It's all about the status symbol.

MG might surprise us. They've been pretty good with their tech so far. They could have something hybrid to increase efficiency.

Priyanka on 16 December 2024 10:35
It may not be super efficient, but it'll probably be better than old SUVs like Fortuner. Modern engines have come a long way.

Fuel efficiency is overrated for big SUVs. If you can have the car, you can have the fuel. It's that simple.

I think we're missing the point. I mean in a country with so much poverty, is there really anything to celebrate in these fuel hungry monster?

Abhinit on 06 January 2025 02:28
It's all relative. Sure, it'll use more fuel than smaller cars. But compared to other SUVs in its class? Might not be that bad.

The real question here is whether it will have a diesel option. For high mileage users, that could make a big difference in running costs.

Anyone buying a car this big isn’t too worried about fuel costs, let’s be real. It's more about the comfort and road presence.

Sourabh on 23 January 2025 04:26
I'm more worried about how it'll do in city traffic. The only problem is if you end up in jams half the time.

We can only hope that MG surprises us and offers a plug in hybrid version. That could be a game-changer in this segment.
