The Mahindra XUV.e8's range will it be enough to cure range anxiety, or will drivers still be sweating?

One of the biggest worries for potential EV buyers in a country like India, where charging infrastructure is still catching up, is range anxiety. While the Mahindra XUV.e8 sounds impressive on paper, with a range of over 500 km on a single charge, the initially planned range is not confirmed by Mahindra & Mahindra and is expected only after the full range of charging infrastructure is implemented. But real world conditions such as traffic, climate control use, and driving style can make a huge difference. However, there’s debate about whether this range is enough for a typical Indian driving pattern, such as long highway trips. Some claim that 400 km is plenty, others say that 500 km won’t do the trick until ultra fast charging stations become ubiquitous. The discussion also includes the range of XUV.e8 compared to its petrol counterpart, the XUV700, in terms of convenience and long range travel capability.

That’s more than enough to cure MY range anxiety! What if you only had to charge once a week or less? That's freedom from petrol pumps.

It'll be a game changer if they can actually deliver 500 km consistently. I’ll believe it when I see it in real Indian driving conditions, however.

For city use, it's great. But what about those weekend getaway to hill stations? I'm not so sure. The charging infrastructure needs to catch up.

It’s mostly psychological — range anxiety. The people will once EVs are in use, and they will see that even 500 km is enough. It's about changing mindsets.

That's a good start, but let's be honest, we all know that that 500 km claim will be more like 400 km in the real world. Still not bad though.

Charging time isn't only about the range. So if it takes hours to charge, 500 km isn't going to be enough for road trips.

500 km range? That's more than enough! I barely drive 50 km a day. For most people, this'll easily last a week without charging.
