The hype surrounding the Aura's infotainment system, does it live up to it?
Hyundai has been touting the Aura's infotainment system as a key selling point in higher trims. It has a touchscreen display with connectivity via smartphone Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Still, the performance of this system in real world use is a subject of argument. Users who love it claim it's responsive and has a good feature set, and those who don't like it say it has connection problems, a poor user interface, and generally doesn't work. The discussion also reaches infotainment systems in rival models, with some asking whether Hyundai's is the best or just standard fare for the segment. Also specific are debates about how easy it is to use when driving, how good voice recognition is, and how well the system intergrates with other car functions. With in car technology becoming more and more important, the infotainment system is a huge plus or minus for many potential buyers.
I’ve been using the Aura’s infotainment system for about a year now and it’s pretty good for the money. It’s responsive, Android Auto operates flawlessly, and the sound quality is good. It's not top of the line, but for a budget car it does the trick.
The infotainment on the Aura is mediocre at best, let’s not kid ourselves. The UI is dated, the app switching is very laggy, and voice recognition is a crap shoot. I expected more from Hyundai, when other brands such as Kia are offering slicker systems at the same price point.
While I'm not the most tech savvy person, I found the Aura’s system to be easy to use. It’s easy to navigate because of its large icons and very basic menu structure. Of course, it may not have all the bells and whistles that more expensive cars do, but for every day use it's more than enough.
It's a mixed bag. On paper it is feature rich but execution is sub par. I’ve had Bluetooth connectivity issues dropping at random, including the system freezing and I have to restart. It works, but it’s not very reliable.
I don’t think the Aura’s infotainment system is as bad as people make it out to be. For the price point, it’s actually pretty good. It's a bright screen that is visible even in sunlight, the touch response is quick, and wireless Android Auto is a big plus. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely one of the better systems in its segment.
As somebody that considers himself a tech enthusiast, I find the Aura's infotainment to be adequate not exciting. It works, but it’s not innovative. I also wish that Hyundai had gone a little further with the boundaries a bit, perhaps with a bigger screen or more customizations.
One of the reasons I got the Aura over its competitors is because of the infotainment system. It’s intuitive to use, and the fact it supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is a total win. Anything that makes long drives more enjoyable with the use of maps and music is certainly welcomed here.
