So, is the Chrome Edition really any different than the classic 500?
The Royal Enfield Classic 500 Chrome Edition is famous for its appearance and some people are still arguing about whether the chrome treatment hampers the bike's performance. According to some riders, the chrome finish added little to no weight, just enough perhaps to effect acceleration and fuel efficiency. Some claim that there is no difference but that it’s all psychological. Theoretically, engine temperature could change since chrome parts might not dissipate heat the same way painted surface areas do. There is also talk of how the chrome finish may offer any extra protection from rust or wear than the standard paint job. There are also some enthusiasts who think that the chrome edition receives slightly different tuning, or higher quality control during manufacturing, and thus a smoother ride. But, Royal Enfield officially says that the chrome edition and standard edition have the same mechanical specification. The result is that riders are left to wonder whether the perceived performance differences are real, or merely a side effect of riding a more visually striking motorcycle that happens to come in a chrome edition.
Nah, it's all in your head. It’s exactly the same engine and components. The difference you feel is all just the placebo effect of riding a shinier bike.
