So, how does the Ola S1 Pro cope with Indian roads?
Indian roads are famous for their varying terrains, many of which are difficult, from smooth highways to pocked streets to unpaved country roads. Since the Ola S1 Pro is a new entrant into the market, I scrutinize the bike with respect to how well it does on these varied terrains. There are some users who say the ride is comfortable, while others add stiff suspension and poor handling in rough roads. Now let us see what S1 Pro owners across India who have been testing the scooter in different road conditions have to say about their experiences, performance, comfort and how suitable the scooter is for the typical Indian riding scenarios.
I've ridden my S1 Pro on all kinds of roads and it manages pretty well. It's stiff, but it soaks up most bumps. You just have to avoid the really nasty potholes.
On really bad roads it's not great. Because of the low ground clearance you have to take extra care of speed breakers and big potholes. I've been scraped at the bottom a few times.
For city riding, it's perfect. Smooth, agile, and easy to maneuver in traffic. It struggles a bit on rough rural roads, however. It gets pretty bumpy and uncomfortable.
I think it does better on Indian roads than most give it credit for. And the weight distribution is good, and the big wheels help. It won't be an off roader though.
It's a mixed bag. It’s a dream to ride on smooth roads. However, when you hit a bad patch, you'll feel every bump. I wish Ola had gone for softer suspension tuning.
Having ridden both the ICE scooters and the S1 Pro, I’d say it’s on par with the vast majority of scooters in its class. It is not exceptionally good or bad – just average for Indian roads.
In fact, the handling is pretty good, even on less than ideal roads. The problem is ground clearance more than anything. Traditional scooters do not require as much awareness of obstacles as you do.
