On long rides, how does the Scram 411’s comfort level compare to its short trip comfort level?
The Royal Enfield Scram 411 is often lauded for its comfortable riding position and plush suspension, which are usually hallmarks of good long distance comfort. Some riders have said, however, that the bike is great for short trips and city rides, but less comfortable for longer highway rides. Long distance touring riders would have to consider the wind protection, as well as, seat comfort and how smooth the ride was at higher speeds (engine vibrations). Also because the Scram 411 outputs relatively low power, more gear changes and higher RPMs might be needed to travel highway speeds, which could wear a rider out on longer trips. But if you're more of a sport bike, its upright seating position and soft suspension just might make it the more comfortable choice for long days in the saddle. And how does the Scram 411's comfort level change as the miles add up, and is it really as comfortable on quick jaunts as it is on epic road trips?
I've done a few 500+ mile days on my Scram 411 and it's surprisingly comfortable! It's great in the upright position for long rides and the seat is actually pretty good. The only real issue is wind blast on the highway but a small windscreen fixes that easily.
I’ve found it to be great for shorter rides but begin to see the limitations on longer trips. It’s wailing and vibrating at highway speeds until you’re wretched from the sound, and because you lack power you’re constantly working the gears and hanging on to stop yourself from falling behind. It’s possible, but not ideal for touring.
I believe it does a decent job of striking a good balance. Long rides, it's way more comfortable than a sport bike but maybe not quite as plush as a full on touring bike. It's pretty much perfect for mixed riding with some highway and some backroads.
It really depends on your size and riding style. At 5'10 I’m on the taller side and find the Scram 411 a bit cramped on longer rides. My shorter friend absolutely loves it for all day adventures. If it’s on your list for touring, it’s worth taking an extended test ride.
Ok, let's be real, it's not a Gold Wing. The comfort level is pretty good, but for what it is – an affordable, middleweight adventure bike. I've gone on weekend trips with no problems. You won’t find it as effortless as a big touring bike on the interstate, but it’s doable.
