Is Yamaha FZ16 (FZ V1) worth buying in 2025?

by @ashutosh.kumarover 1 year ago0 views7 answers
Introduced in 2008, the Yamaha FZ16, or FZ V1, became an instant success due to its muscular looks and comfortable riding position. It sported a fat rear tire, one of the first bikes to do so in India. With a 153cc air cooled engine that gives 14 bhp power, the bike is propelled. Yamaha has been releasing newer models of the FZ over the year but a group of enthusiasts still prefer going back to the original V1 model. Now that we have used FZ V1s available in the market, many riders are wondering whether it’s still a good choice in 2025, given that parts availability, performance, and overall riding experience on the same is compared to newer models.

I'd say it's a mixed bag. It's a proven, reliable machine on one hand. On the other hand, you lose out on the features such as ABS, and fuel injection. Decide only after considering what your priorities are.

It’s totally worth it if you can find one in good condition. It’s for a reason that the FZ V1 has its cult following. It’s comfortable, it handles well, and it has that special character you don’t get with modern bikes.

I think it's outdated now. The FZ V1 feels underwhelming for a 150 – 160cc offering. In fact, you’d be better off with something like the Apache RTR 160 4V or newer FZ versions.

I recently bought a used FZ V1 and I would say go for it! The bike is simple enough to be maintained and modified easily. On top of that, it's a charm that newer models can't equal.

That depends on what you’re looking for. Still a solid choice if you’re looking for a reliable, no frills commuter with a bit of style. All you need to do is make sure you get one that's been well taken care of.

I wouldn't recommend it. It's a long way from 2008 in technology. When you look at the bikes these days they offer better fuel efficiency, more features and safety. A newer model or a different brand is better.

Absolutely! The V1 FZ is always in style. Mine has been running like a dream since 2010. It has top notch build quality and parts are easily available. Also, it has that raw mechanical feel newer bikes don’t.
