Is the Yamaha RX 135 really the 'King of the Streets' or is it just nostalgia, overhyped?

The King of the Streets, the Yamaha RX 135 has become a legend motorcycle in India. This was a quick acceleration, lightweight, two stroke wonder with its distinctive exhaust note. On the other hand, with modern bikes throwing in more features and much better fuel efficiency at the same time, some prefer to think of the RX 135's legacy as a matter of nostalgia rather than as proof. The debate is always about whether the bike's raw power and simplicity can still hold its own against today's technology laden motorcycles. Whether modern bikes can offer the same visceral experience as a two stroke, or what its possibilities are regarding modding are what enthusiasts argue about. The question also extends to the greater question of classic versus modern motorcycles and if the RX 135’s cult status is earned in the current riding landscape.

The RX 135 is pure adrenaline on two wheels. Man! There’s nothing like that power band kick when it gets to 5000 RPM. In comparison to modern bikes, they feel soulless.

Nostalgia goggles, mate. Ride one in city traffic and you'll be begging for fuel injection and ABS. At best, it's a fun weekend toy.

The specs don’t matter, it’s about the experience. 2T oil smell, ring ding sound and lightweight flickability, that's what makes it the king.

I have owned both and I honestly had more fun with the RX, but my new bike is much more practical. The RX is that crazy ex you can't forget but you know you shouldn't go back to.

King of the Streets? King of the Mechanics, more like. To keep running well, these things require constant tinkering. No longer worth the hassle these days.

There is no way to compare apples to oranges. That’s why the RX 135 is a classic. It’s simple, raw and teaches you real riding skills without electronic nannies.

I'd say half performance, and half nostalgia. In the real world, it’s nothing like it accelerates, but it’s pretty much lacking in everything else.
