Is the Skoda Octavia’s infotainment system a deal breaker?
Skoda Octavia's latest generation has been praised as an overall package, but one thing that has been consistently criticised is its infotainment system. A host of problems from laggy performance, unintuitive controls, and the unfortunate replacement of physical knobs and switches with frustrating touch sensitive buttons have been reported by users. As a result, debates have arisen about whether the high tech approach has actually made the user experience better or whether it is actually a step backwards in terms of function and safety. The question looks at just how much of a problem these infotainment issues are in real world use, whether software updates have helped, and if the system's deficiencies are enough to outweigh the car's other good qualities in terms of purchase decision making.
It is not great, it is not terrible. The touchscreen is laggy but you get used to it.
Absolute deal-breaker for me. I drove one and hated the touch sliders for volume and climate control.
A lot of the issues were fixed by the latest software update. Now it's much more responsive.
I actually like it. It’s pretty intuitive once you learn the layout. The voice commands are even good.
It's a pain, but not a pain that's enough to wash out all the other good things about the car.
Not going to lie, I miss the physical buttons, but holy hell is the screen crisp and the wireless CarPlay works perfectly.
This is my kind of car in a nutshell, so it’s my biggest gripe with the car. The previous gen is where Skoda really dropped the ball on this one.
