Is the RSV4 1100 Factory's electronics package too much for most riders?

by Sukhmandeep Kaurover 1 year ago0 views10 comments
Along with the Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory’s sophisticated electronics package comes multiple riding modes, traction control, wheelie control, launch control, and a pit limiter. On paper, these features are impressive, but there's debate about whether they're really needed or even useful for most riders. Others believe they are an essential safety net, and that riders can safely push their limits. Some think they take away from the pure riding experience, or that they’re too complicated to set up and use efficiently. Are electronic aids all that useful in real world riding or are they mostly left idle? Do they make riding more enjoyable or more difficult? So with that said, let’s talk about the pros and cons of having such advanced electronics on a street legal superbike.

The electronics are fantastic, but they are not a substitute for skill. You still need to know what you’re doing to ride this beast properly.

Having options is nice but it can be information overload. I sometimes miss the simplicity of my old analog bikes.

Street riding is pretty useless with the pit limiter, but the rest of the package is solid. The cornering ABS especially.

After the first month I turned everything off. I prefer to use my own skills. I understand why some people want the safety net.

Let’s be honest though, how often are you doing drag races on the street? The launch control is fun to play with.

It makes the bike more accessible to a wider range of riders, I think. You don’t have to scare yourself silly to grow into the performance.

If you actually learn to use it, it’s not overkill. It took me a little time to dial in my preferences, but I just love messing with settings for different conditions.

On sketchy roads, the traction control is a godsend. It has saved my bacon more than once. Worth it for that alone.

I hardly even touch most of the settings. Stick it in sport mode and leave it. The rest is just marketing fluff.

Overkill? Maybe. I'd rather have them and not need them than need them and not have them. They are great for the building of confidence.
