Is the Royal Enfield Roadster 650’s weight going to be a deal breaker for urban riders?
Royal Enfield motorcycles are known as a bit on the heavy side, especially when it comes to their bigger displacement models. The Interceptor 650 weighs about 202 kg (dry), and the Super Meteor 650 weighs a portly 241 kg (wet). Given that the Roadster 650 will probably have a similar chassis and engine setup, there are doubts about its weight, which could make it difficult for city riders to weave in and out of traffic and park in tight spaces. At low speeds and in stop and go traffic, common for city riding, a heavier bike is harder to manage. Also, the weight may affect the fuel efficiency and agility of the bike. Some think the weight adds stability at higher speeds and a more planted feel on the road, but others disagree. The question is: can Royal Enfield get the Roadster 650 right to make it appealing to those who want to use it for city commutes and weekend rides?
It is definitely a concern but it is not a deal breaker. Once you're on the move, these bikes aren't bad at all. And the low end torque comes in handy in traffic. It’s manageable, but it might take some getting used to.
