Is the Marazzo's 4 star Global NCAP rating a game changer for safety in the MPV segment?

In fact, the Mahindra Marazzo scored a 4 star rating in Global NCAP crash tests, which is pretty good for an MPV in the Indian market. It’s sparked discussions about safety standards in the segment, where many competitors have lower or no official safety ratings. This makes the Marazzo a standout choice for safety conscious families and could encourage other manufacturers to up their game, they say. Some even argue that if 4 stars is good, what is 5 stars, and whether this level of safety should be the bare minimum, and not a selling point. And the topic always leads to a bigger conversation about the Indian car market and how safety features make so little difference when compared to other aspects like price and other features. It also prompts consumers to wonder whether they will pay more for safer cars and, in turn, whether the government should mandate higher standards across the board.

It's definitely a big deal. Since most MPVs in India are death traps on wheels, having one with actual safety credentials is big. It might make other brands raise their game too.
