Is the Mahindra Xylo's lack of modern features a bad thing or a good thing for long term ownership?
In fact, the Mahindra Xylo, especially in its early models, is famous for its rather simple feature set as compared to the latest vehicles. It has all the essentials, but without a lot of the fancy technology and comfort that goes hand in hand with newer vehicles. Because of this simplicity, there has been debate as to its suitability as long term ownership. From one side, having fewer complex systems reduces the possible bad things that can happen over time, which, arguably, decreases maintenance costs and increases reliability. On the flipside, the older the vehicle, the more likely it will lack modern features, which will undoubtedly decrease the owner's satisfaction even faster, and significantly decrease the resale value of the car. Think about the ownership experience over 5-10 years, when you don’t have things like advanced infotainment systems, driver assistance technologies, or modern safety equipment. Does the simplicity of the Xylo mean it's a better bet for those who intend to keep their car for a long time, or does it become a liability as automotive technology continues to advance?
I've had my Xylo 8 years and I love the simplicity. I have no fancy electronics to go haywire, and I can fix most things myself. It may not have all the latest gadgets, but it starts every time and does the job.
