Is the KTM Duke 890 R good for long-distance touring?

by geeta kumariover 1 year ago0 views7 comments
The KTM Duke 890 R is primarily a high-performance naked bike, with sporty handling and aggressive riding the order of the day. But many owners want to take it out on longer trips and light touring. All of which begs the question of how comfortable the bike is over long periods, how much luggage it can carry, and how well it can handle highway miles. The upright riding position of the Duke series is generally lauded for its comfort, but the 890 R’s stiffer suspension and performance-oriented ergonomics may not be for all-day riding. Wind protection, fuel range, and the availability of aftermarket comfort accessories would be factors tourers would have to consider. The question is whether the 890 R can be a real do-it-all bike or should it be limited to being a sporty street and track machine.

It's 70% there for touring, I'd say. For most people, good enough, but hardcore tourers want something else.

The small tank is the real limiting factor for long rides, but it’s more comfortable than you’d think.

I tour on mine all the time. The secret is to take many breaks and enjoy the twisties.

It makes a great sport tourer with a good windscreen and some soft luggage. Just don't expect luxury.

For weekend trips, it’s fine, but I wouldn’t want to cross the country on it. After a few hours, the wind blast gets tiring.

No way, it's too aggressive. If you want to tour, get an adventure bike.

On my 890 R I’ve done 500-mile days. It’s not a Gold Wing, but with the right mods, it’s surprisingly comfortable.
