Is the KTM Duke 390 a beginner-friendly first bike?
New riders have to be careful how they choose their first motorcycle. Due to its small displacement and small size, the KTM Duke 390 is often on the list of bikes that beginners choose. But people have different opinions on whether it is the right choice for beginners. From the bike's responsive engine and sporty handling, it can be exhilarating, but this can be deadly to inexperienced riders. Moreover, the Duke 390 also has some maintenance demands and reliability problems that may not easily fit or even please newcomers to motorcycling. Rider maturity, physical size, and on whose requests he uses a bike matter a lot when deciding if the Duke 390 is the right choice for his first bike. This is a topic people often discuss, talking about the balance between having a bike a new rider can grow into versus one that is just too much for them to handle.
I began on a Duke 390 and don’t regret my decision. It's fun, but not so fun that it's unmanageable.
