Is the Kawasaki Z500 too much for newbies, or is it really a good beginner bike?

While the Z500 is often promoted as a great starter bike, some riders feel it’s too much power for complete novices. It has a 451cc parallel-twin motor good for around 45 horsepower, a bit of a step up from the 300cc bikes. The bike's lightweight chassis and neutral riding position suggest it's a machine that's easy to get on with, but the power delivery might be a little much for some. You also have to wonder whether new riders will quickly grow out of it, or if it provides enough performance to keep them happy for a few years. Others will say that it’s the perfect balance of power and manageability, while others will say that true beginners should start on something smaller. It’s often a debate of personal learning curve, physical size, and riding goals.

For a new rider, the Z500 was perfect. I think it has enough power to be exciting, but it doesn't have so much that I felt overwhelmed. It was very easy to learn throttle control thanks to the smooth power delivery.
