Is the Hyundai Tucson's tech filled interior a step forward or a usability nightmare?

by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views7 comments
The latest Hyundai Tucson is outfitted with a tech focused interior with a large touchscreen infotainment system and digital instrument cluster. Touch sensitive panels replace traditional physical buttons, and include many controls, such as climate and audio. This makes for a sleek, modern look, but users have been debating its practicality in day to day use. People either cheer the clean look or complain about lack of tactile feedback combined with possible distractions while driving. And there are questions about long term durability and the cost of repairs for these complex systems. Supporters say it keeps the Tucson competitive and appealing to younger buyers in a tech forward approach, while critics worry about the learning curve and frustration potential for those used to more traditional layouts. The focus of the discussion is whether Hyundai got the proportions of innovation and usability right in the Tucson's interior design.

The touch controls were just so different, I actually returned my Tucson. Everything else about the car I loved but safety has to come first for me so it's a shame.

I'm all for it as a gadget lover. With technology, cars should evolve and the Tucson does feel modern and up to date. What’s more, software can get better over time with updates.

It's cool tech, but I wish Hyundai had settled on a middle ground. Perhaps physical controls for the things you want to have control of all the time, like your climate and volume, but then touch for the things you want to adjust less often?

I'm afraid those touch panels will not last very long. In a few years, what happens when the screen starts to get glitchy? It seems like an expensive fix.

I had to get used to it, it took me a week or two, but now I love the tech heavy interior. Driving this thing feels like I’m in a spaceship versus my old car!

As a person who is not super tech savvy, I don't like that there are no physical buttons. I miss being able to adjust things without looking at the road.

The interior looks very clean, but I will admit it can be a bit of a pain to adjust the AC while on the road. It still feels premium, though.
