Is the Hunter 350's lighter weight and nimble handling somehow a trade off of the classic Royal Enfield 'feel' that we're used to?
The Hunter 350 is a departure from what the Royal Enfield design philosophy has always been about, which is a lighter frame and more agile handling. The debate among motorcycle enthusiasts started on whether the bike still has the soul that makes a Royal Enfield, unique. Others believe the classic RE experience is defined by a particular heft and solidity, and the iconic, 'thump' of the engine. But there are others who would argue that the Hunter's more modern approach is just the latest addition to a brand which has been at the cutting edge of its own field for so long. The topic ranges from the brand identity and riding experience that a motorcycle is all about, to striking a balance between the traditional and modern in motorcycle design. It’s also a broader discussion on how heritage brands can keep up with changes in market demands without losing its heart.
I think the Hunter is right. There's just enough of that RE character but not so much you feel like a dinosaur. It’s way more fun in the city because of the lighter weight.
It's lost the plot for me. The Hunter is a proper Enfield, but it feels more like a generic commuter. The Classic was solid and planted, and I miss that.
It's just different 'feel' but not necessarily worse. I think it's more playful and less intimidating, and will attract new riders to the brand. It's still got RE DNA, just evolved.
Having owned both a Classic and a Hunter I would say that the Hunter actually seems to feel more engaging to ride. With the lighter weight you feel more connected to the road.
RE feel is overrated, the classic feel. The Hunter is more practical, and still has plenty of character. This is a modern take on what an Enfield can be.
I didn't believe him at first, but the Hunter's grown on me. It's still Royal Enfield, but in a different way, and it's got its own unique feel.
It’s great that it’s lighter weight, but I do miss the distinctive thump. The Hunter is a bit too refined for my taste. It's a trade-off.
