Is the Himalayan 450's liquid cooling the price of the simplicity that made the original popular?
The original Himalayan was known for its simple ruggedness, and an air cooled engine that was easy to maintain and repair even in remote places. The simplicity of it was part of its charm, and its practicality for adventure touring. But the new Himalayan 450 is switching to a liquid cooled engine that should deliver better performance and efficiency. However, this shift raises an interesting question of whether simplicity and ease of roadside repairs will be lost by the bike for hardcore adventure riders. Liquid cooling systems are more complex, with more parts that could fail in damaging conditions. However, modern liquid cooled engines can be more reliable and overall more efficient. This is a big change for the Himalayan and has started a conversation about what the trade offs between performance and simplicity in adventure motorcycles look like.

If you crack the radiator, liquid cooling is only an issue. You just add a guard and you're good.

The original wasn’t simple to work with anyway. Maybe this could actually be better.

RE will probably make it simple enough. It's not as if it's a high strung sport bike engine.

It's a necessary evolution. The old air cooled engine was just not enough for modern needs.

The downsides of liquid cooling don’t outweigh the benefits. It will be more reliable.
