Is the Flying Flea’s unusual front suspension a gimmick, or a genuine game changer?
The new Flying Flea has one of the most striking features of its unconventional front suspension design. It features a unique linkage system in place of traditional telescopic forks, and though similar to some vintage motorcycles for the linkage, the design is very modern. This design choice has generated a lot of discussion by motorcycle enthusiasts and engineers. But some say it could give better handling — less ‘anti dive’ for example, during braking. It's viewed by others as an unnecessary complication that could introduce new maintenance challenges or quirks of handling. There is much debate over the suspension’s performance in different riding conditions, its effect on the overall weight of the bike, and its long term durability. There’s also the question of whether this design actually brings any advantages over modern telescopic forks, or if this is just an aesthetic choice to differentiate the Flying Flea from its crowded market.
Looks cool but it's probably just for show. Why mess with traditional forks that are just fine?
I'm excited to try it! This could be a real improvement in handling, especially for an electric bike.
It's going to be a nightmare to maintain. You’ll be lucky to find a mechanic who knows how to work on that.
This is a light fork compared to traditional forks, which works great on an electric bike. Every kg counts.
But RE usually knows what they're doing, I'm skeptical. I'll hold my judgment until I have ridden it.
That’s different and that’s what matters. This is the kind of innovation motorcycle design needs.
Looks fragile to me. With that setup, I wouldn’t want to hit a pothole.
If it does work well, other brands will simply copy it. If not, it'll be a fun footnote in RE's history.
