Is the CT125X Drum’s lack of features actually what some riders want?
The CT125X Drum is a minimalist, not only omitting many of the features that come on more expensive 125cc bikes, but also removing some of its own. It means sticking with a drum brake rather than a disc, with an analog instrument cluster, and excluding modern things like LED lighting or Bluetooth connectivity. And some say the simplicity means the bike is more reliable and easier to maintain — particularly for country riders lacking computer skills, such as many city folk. Some say these omissions make the CT125X feel outdated and less safe. It’s a debate over whether the saving on features equals a higher quality build or if it is simply a matter of cost cutting. There's also debate over whether this approach curtails the bike's youth cachet, even in a budget bike, by not packing in some modern amenities that a kid might expect.
Absolutely! What drew me to the CT125X is its simplicity. My commuter bike doesn’t need fancy gadgets, just something that works and gets me from A to B.
No way. It's a deal breaker for me that it doesn't have a front disc brake. It shouldn’t be sacrificing safety for a low price.
That depends on what your priorities are. If you are mechanically inclined and like to work on your own bike, then the simplicity of the CT125X is a huge plus. Fewer things to go wrong!
Bajaj missed an opportunity here, I think. At the very least they could have included at least some basic modern features without jacking up the price too much. It’s a bit too bare bones.
It's fine they don't have features, but I wish they had spent that money on better quality components. For example, the suspension can use an upgrade.
The basic feature set is more than enough for city commuting. And, fewer electronics means less chance of electrical gremlins in the future.
I love the minimalism, but a digital speedometer would be an easy addition. It's 2025, after all!
