Is the Amo Jaunty all the hype it’s cracked up to be for daily commuting?
Recently, the Amo Jaunty has been getting a lot of buzz as a cheap electric scooter for urban commuters. With so many e scooters hitting the market, it’s difficult to determine whether the Jaunty actually delivers on the marketing promises. It's met with some praise for its range and features, but some doubt whether it’s really practical for everyday use. What's the power and battery life like, can it get through a typical commute with hills and traffic? How does it ride compared to gas scooters? Will the build quality last the wear and tear that a phone will go through on a daily basis? So, let’s hear from real Jaunty owners on their real world experiences using this e-scooter as a regular commuting tool.
I've ridden the Jaunty for my 10km commute for the past 3 months and generally I'm pretty happy with it. While it’s enough to get me to and from work on one charge with a few deviations, it’s not enough to be my sole means of transportation. It does ok on small hills. For the price point, the ride is smoother than I thought it’d be. The only thing about it that I don't like is the slightly flimsy feeling plastic body panels.
I really didn’t like Jaunty enough to keep it for a week. Riding in "Power" mode, which you need for any kind of incline, the range was way less than advertised. At high speeds it felt unstable and the brakes were pretty meager. I went back to my old gas scooter, maybe I just got a lemon.
On price, the Jaunty is hard to beat. It’s not as refined as premium e scooters, but it does the job reliably. I actually like the simpler design — less fancy electronics to break down. After 6 months of daily use, so far no major issues.
The Jaunty is okay for short trips, but I’m not sure I’d take it on longer commutes. After 30 minutes the seat becomes uncomfortable and the small wheels do not make for a good ride on rough roads. Battery life is okay but will noticeably degrade in the cold.
I’m a heavier rider (95kg) and find the Jaunty struggle on hills and with acceleration. On flat ground it's fine, but I'm constantly holding up traffic. May be better for lighter riders.
I love my Jaunty! The best thing about it is that it's perfect for zipping around the city. The super convenient removable battery is great to be able to charge in my apartment. It's not the fastest, but zippy enough for urban riding and so much cheaper than owning a car.
The Jaunty is a mixed bag. This is good value, but definitely some compromises. Build quality is hit or miss, I’ve had to tighten rattling parts a few times. For the price, I can’t complain too much about it. This gets me where I need to go.
People expect too much from budget e scooters, I think. It isn’t perfect, but it’s a solid starter scooter. I think it's got me interested in e mobility and I'll probably upgrade to a higher end model eventually. But for now, it does the job.
