Is the Alto's fuel efficiency still its biggest selling point or are people too stuck in the past?
For a long time, the Maruti Alto has been touted for having one of the best fuel efficiency figures, which has been one of the factors for its popularity in India. But, with automotive technology moving ahead and competitors catching up, there's a debate over whether the Alto is still that much ahead of its competitors in terms of mileage. But some say the fuel economy isn't enough to outweigh other factors, such as better features or improved safety in competing models. There's also talk about whether too much focus on mileage makes the automaker compromise in other areas of the car. It looks at changing consumer priorities, with some saying that buyers are more interested in comfort, technology or style, rather than just running costs. It also brings up the real world fuel efficiency of the Alto versus its claimed figures and whether the economy touted is really as good in the heavy traffic situations that are the norm in Indian cities.

The Alto is still a big selling point for budget conscious buyers with its mileage. Not everyone can afford to put other features ahead.

The Alto is a fuel efficient car, but sacrifices too much comfort and safety to achieve it.

The Alto's advertised city traffic efficiency isn't as good as it seems. It's losing its edge.

Though, it’s not just about mileage anymore. Buyers are starting to care more about safety and features.

People are stuck in the past. Almost as efficient as modern cars with better features.

Most buyers still want fuel efficiency. Given a petrol car, the Alto is hard to beat on mileage.
