Is Bajaj taking too many Discover variants? Does the 125M get lost in the shuffle?
Over the years, Bajaj has released multiple versions of the Discover including multiple versions of the 125cc like the 125ST, 125T and 125M. This approach gives consumers more choice, but it has added confusion to the marketplace. The differences between models are subtle enough, they say, that buyers can’t easily tell which model is best for them. As a value option, the 125M could get lost in the crowded Discover lineup, or its siblings could overshadow it. Unlike competitors, this strategy is different in that it does not have such clear distinctions between models. Has Bajaj's approach to the Discover line helped or hurt the 125M's success? Is this a segment where too much choice is a good thing?
It's a mess. I spent hours trying to tell all the Discovers apart. In frustration I ended up buying a Honda.
I actually like having options. The 125M hits the right sweet spot of price and features that other variants are lacking.
This is Bajaj just throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks. The 125M is fine, but it's hard to recommend when the lineup changes every year.
The strategy works. There are different variants for slightly different buyers. If you want Discover style on the cheap, then the 125M is perfect.
Too many cooks in the kitchen. Bajaj should trim down the lineup, and make fewer, but better models.
The number of variants doesn’t matter, it’s about clear communication. Bajaj needs to do a better job of explaining the differences.
For sure, the 125M gets lost in the shuffle. That's a shame because it's probably the best all rounder in the Discover lineup.
