How does the Interceptor 650 fare as a two-up tourer?
Having a passenger on a motorcycle can change the handling and comfort of a motorcycle very dramatically. The Interceptor 650 with its classic styling and mid range power seems to be a good option for couples or friends who want to share the ride. However, how does it really fare with all the added weight and different weight distribution? Negotiations are weighed on numerous fronts, like seat comfort for the pillion, stability at different speeds, and power delivery under load. It has its two-up fans, but not everyone is a fan. But there's also the question of how adding a passenger impacts the bike's already much debated fuel efficiency. If you’re thinking of the Interceptor as a bike to share with people, then knowing how it performs in the real world with a pillion is essential.
I ride two up regularly with my girlfriend and the Interceptor handles it surprisingly well. The extra weight doesn’t bother the torquey engine, and the long seat means there’s plenty of room for a passenger. It's stable at highway speeds as well. All you have to do is be ready for more often fuel stops!
