How does the Brera 1.8 fit into the modern sports coupe world?

With automotive technology rushing ahead, it makes for an interesting comparison to put an older model, such as the Alfa Romeo Brera 1.8 (1.75 TBi) against a modern sports coupe. However, this comparison is much more than raw performance figures; it's about how a machine feels and its design philosophy. The Brera is a more analog, driver focused approach to sports car design and one that is in stark contrast to what you find in modern coupes, which often come with driver aids, infotainment systems and highly efficient powertrains. The 1.75 TBi engine has a distinctive character, and its performance is different to the sometimes turbocharged powerplants of today's sports coupes. This is most useful in understanding what priorities have changed in automotive design and engineering.

There's no tech, but there's pure driving feel. The coupes of today feel too digital by comparison.

Many new coupes look generic, but the Brera’s design still turns heads.

It’s outgunned performance wise, but it makes for a more engaging drive than many modern alternatives.

The Brera is more efficient and faster than modern coupes but it has a soul that’s hard to find nowadays.

From a safety features perspective, it's outdated.

Everytime you drive the Brera, it feels special. Many new coupes, while faster, lack that X-factor.

It's a mid 2000s design and engineering time capsule. That’s both its charm and its drawback compared to modern cars.
