From so many new options in the market, why do people still purchase the WagonR?
The Maruti WagonR which was one of the longest running bestsellers in the Indian market despite launching of dozens of new models from all manufacturers has suffered quite the sales dip. Some automotive enthusiasts and industry observers have been wondering about this phenomenon, discussing what makes the WagonR so attractive to Indian buyers. To it's detractors, they argue it's brand loyalty, coupled with strong Maruti service network; practitioners call it practical in value for money argument. The WagonR's success against what seem like more modern and feature rich competitors has kicked off debates about Indian consumer preferences and if newer isn’t always better in the automotive market. However, the biggest question this story throws up is on the reason behind the WagonR enduring popularity and what it says about the Indian car buyer's mindset.
It's simple - reliability. I still have my dad's WagonR, its 10 years old and still running strong. If you know what works, why experiment with new models?
