Does the Qashqai's popularity affect its resale value more (or less) than other SUVs?
Widespread popularity and high sales volumes of the Nissan Qashqai have caused people to talk about how well the car would retain its value over the long term. Others say its ubiquity means it has a strong used market at all times, keeping values relatively stable. Of course, there are others who believe that the volume of used Qashqais on the market pushes prices down swiftly. The Qashqai is also something of a poster boy for the crossover craze, but there has also been plenty of debate over how much the scrutiny it has fallen under (both positive and negative) influences its desirability in the second hand market compared to other crossovers and SUVs. This research question examines the relationship between popularity, reputation, resale value, and all these variables have to play in this competitive crossover segment.
As far as I’ve seen Qashqais tend to hold their value pretty well. Well equipped models are always in demand on the used market. Sure, they depreciate, but not as badly as some rivals.
I do think the popularity actually hurts resale value. Prices are driven down by such an abundance of available used ones. On top of that, newer models are improving all the time, so older versions are less attractive.
All depends on the spec and condition. The higher trims with low mileage hold up okay but base models lose value fast. In my area, at least, the diesel versions seem to hold their value better.
Resale of the Qashqai is mediocre compared to premium brands. It's not bad for a mainstream crossover, however. When it's time to sell, you won't get stung too badly.
The resale value of the Qashqai is helped by its reputation for reliability. They’re popular second hand buys because people know what they’re getting. It's just going to be the years and powertrains to avoid.
