Does the KTM 690 Enduro really live up to its 'do it all' moniker?

But the KTM 690 Enduro is also a versatile machine that is equally at home on the daily commute as it is on a long-distance adventure or off-road trails. But does it excel in all these areas, or is it a jack of all trades, a master of none? Fans of the bike claim it can handle anything, but others maintain that it's too much bike for technical off-road riding and not comfortable enough for long highway stretches. On with the good and bad of using this 690 Enduro as an all-purpose motorcycle, and does it actually live up to the 'do it all' reputation?

Absolutely! I have had my 690 for three years now, and it takes everything I throw at it. Riding to and from work, weekend trips, and even some gnarly single track. It's not perfect at everything; it's damn good at most things.

A great bike, but not a true do-it-all. For beginners, it’s too tall and too powerful, while the maintenance costs are a pain. Sure, if you’re an experienced rider who wants one bike to do a lot of things. But it's not for everyone.

In the dual sport world, I'd say it's as close to a do-it-all as you can get. It’s capable off-road, but the power and suspension make it comfortable enough and stable enough for long rides. But don't expect it to feel as comfy as a full-on ADV bike.

Nah, it's overhyped. If you’re looking for a true do-it-all, get a Honda Africa Twin or BMW GS. The 690 is great at some things, but it's too compromised to be a real all-rounder.

That depends on what you mean by “do it all.” For me, it's perfect. On multi-day trips, I can use it, hit some trails on the weekend, and commute during the week. Is it the best at everything? No. It's good at all but most things, so I don't need another bike.

People expect too much from one bike, I think. But the 690 is also incredibly versatile; it's just a compromise. For riders who want to do a bit of everything but don’t want multiple bikes, it’s great. And just manage your expectations.

I owned both a 690 and a DR650 and can tell you that the 690 is much more capable. It's not bulletproof like the DR, but it'll do everything better. It's about as do-it-all as you can get if you can afford it and don't mind the maintenance.
