Does the KTM 390 Adventure X make the trade-offs worth it when compared to the standard model?
The KTM 390 Adventure X is a stripped-down version of the standard 390 Adventure, giving you a cheaper entry into the adventure bike segment. Besides some notable differences—lower seat height, MRF tires instead of Metzelers, and the lack of traction control and cornering ABS, plus a TFT display—it’s essentially the same. The price difference is about 60,000 INR because of these changes. But the core of the engine and chassis are the same, so many riders are debating whether the extra features justify the extra money or if the X model is better value. Here, we try to answer the question of whether one should get the Adventure X or the more feature-rich sibling, in terms of intended use, rider experience, and budget constraints.
Absolutely worth it! The same engine and frame are available at a lower price through the X model. Why do we need every single one of those fancy electronics? They’re just additional things that can break.
That really depends on your riding style. If you will be doing a lot of off-roading, the simpler setup of the X model may actually be a benefit. You're less worried when you're in the dirt.
Not worth it in my opinion. Cornering ABS and traction control are those safety features that really could save your bacon if you’re not the most experienced of riders. It would be more than worth it to pay extra for peace of mind.
If you want to build your own bike, the X is perfect. You don’t pay for features you may replace anyway, and you can grow your way up.
I think KTM made a smart move. Not all the bells and whistles are a must or a want for everyone. In this way, more people can afford adventure riding.
It’s definitely worth the extra cash. The display itself is a huge difference in the overall experience. And those Metzeler tires are much better than the MRFs.
I own the X, and I say it’s totally worth it. It’s more raw and connected without all the electronic aids. It's a pure riding experience.
At first I was skeptical, but after test riding both, I prefer the X. The lower seat height makes it so much easier in traffic and when stopping.
It's a tough call. I don't think the X is bad value, but I wouldn't be able to help myself wishing I had the features I didn't get. It might be worth saving up for the standard.
For a beginner, the X is perfect. You don’t get overwhelmed with features you may not use right away, but you get the same great chassis and engine. If you want, you can always upgrade later.
