Does the Chetak’s 73 km/h top speed suit Indian road conditions?
The top speed of the new 2024 Bajaj Chetak Premium has increased from 63 km/h to 73 km/h. This improvement is welcomed by most riders, but there is a debate going on whether this speed is enough for Indian road condition, especially in urban areas with different traffic patterns and on connecting highways. While others suggest that 73 km/h is too slow for city commuters and short intercity trips, the speed profile represents a good compromise among performance and safety. Others argue that a top speed higher than 25 mph is needed to maintain flow with traffic on faster roads and certainly to make overtaking maneuvers more confidently. It also discusses how this top speed stacks up against the petrol scooters in that same category and whether it makes the Chetak any less practical for a more varied set of use cases beyond the urban commute.
It's plenty for city riding. I rarely go above 60 anyway. For an e scooter, it’s better to focus on range, not top speed.
Not enough for me. On some of the bigger roads here I need to hit 80-85 to feel safe, 73 feels limiting.
It's a good compromise. Not so fast they drain the battery super quick, but fast enough to keep up with traffic.
I wish it was a bit higher, say 80 km/h. It's just to give you a little more oomph to get you out of a sticky situation.
73 is fine. If you want to go faster, buy a motorcycle. It’s a city scooter, not a highway cruiser.
It's enough, but just barely. When I'm maxed out, I sometimes feel as if I'm holding up traffic.
It's okay speed, but I'm more worried about how it does at that speed. Does it feel stable? That's what matters.
