Do the Scorpio-N’s ADAS features actually make sense in Indian driving conditions?

While new to the Indian market, the Mahindra Scorpio-N comes with a host of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features such as Driver Drowsiness Detection. These technologies are intended to help make driving safer and more convenient, but there’s debate over whether they actually work in the Indian driving conditions. Others say these systems, designed mostly for Western markets, might not be up to the task of Indian roads, which are characterized by unpredictable traffic patterns, inconsistent road conditions and different driving behavior. Some think that any extra safety feature is good, no matter where it comes from. It also discusses whether these ADAS features actually bring real world benefits to Indian drivers or are just a marketing gimmick. They also consider how well calibrated these systems are for Indian conditions and if they might actually be more of a distraction than an aid in some situations.

The ADAS features are surprisingly useful — the drowsiness detection in particular when driving on long highways. I’ve caught me nodding off a couple of times.

Indian traffic makes most of the ADAS features seem pointless. They're always beeping and flashing warnings that are not relevant to how we drive around here.

It's a mixed bag. Some features are good on highways, like the adaptive cruise control, but features like lane keep assist are useless on our poorly marked roads.

I think that's a step in the right direction. They're not perfect for Indian conditions but they'll get better with time. We need to start somewhere.

Being able to have the ADAS features at least gives me a peace of mind when I’m driving and family. It’s worth having that extra layer of safety, even if they’re not perfect.

After the first week, I turned off most of the ADAS features. In day to day driving in India they're more annoying than helpful.

I’ve driven in India and abroad and can say the ADAS features are definitely less effective here. They're still better than nothing though.

For new or less confident drivers, the real value of ADAS in India is. It is an extra set of eyes on the road.

I believe we are missing the point. These features aren’t designed to replace good driving, they’re designed to complement it. They are tools, not crutches.
