Could the success of the Thar.e lead to the death of the ICE Thar?

The introduction of the electric Thar.e has led to some discussion about whether the traditional ICE Thar has a future. And some enthusiasts are concerned that if the Thar.e proves a success, it could mean the end of the beloved ICE version. The result has been debates about Mahindra's long term strategy and the future of off road vehicles in general. However, there are worries that the sound and feel of being off road will be lost in the ICE Thar that many love so much. Then there are those who claim that the superior torque and instant power delivery of electric motors may actually improve off road abilities. Also we talk often about tradition vs progress in the automotive world, and how a brand such as Mahindra must negotiate the imperatives of this transition.

No way! The ICE Thar has a fan following. Both versions will run for years.

It's inevitable. The ICE Thar will be phased out and EVs are the future. It's just a matter of time.

Long term, as regulations get stricter the Thar.e will take over, but they’ll probably coexist for a while.

But the ICE Thar could be a niche product for purists and the Thar.e would be the mass market choice.

I believe the success of the Thar.e will actually rekindle interest in the ICE version as a collector's item.

They are for different purposes. The Thar.e is for daily use and short trips, the ICE Thar is for serious off-roading where charging is an issue.

That will depend on how well the Thar.e is able to replicate the off road experience. In tough terrain, if it can't match the ICE version, both will stick around.
