Can the XEV 9e Pack Three's 175 kW DC fast charging make long road trips possible in India?
With a charging capacity of 175 kW DC fast charging, the XEV 9e Pack Three can charge the battery from 20-80% in under 20 minutes. They call this a game changer for EV long distance travel. But this can only work in practice if fast charging infrastructure is available and reliable on Indian highways. In addition, it prompts questions around the effect that frequent fast charging has on battery life, the actual charging speeds possible at public stations and the relative time taken to refuel a conventional ICE vehicle on road trips. For some, that versatility for both city and highway use makes the XEV 9e truly versatile, but for others, the current state of charging infrastructure might make them skeptical.

Most people get by with charging at home overnight. It’s a nice to have, not a need to have.

The actual question is: Can the electrical grid support several cars charging at 175 kW? I'm skeptical.

Compare it to ICE cars. Yes, it’s slower to charge, but you’re still saving money and reducing emissions. Worth the extra time.

It’s not just about how fast you can charge. This will only work if we have reliable, well maintained chargers along highways.

Battery degradation is something I am worried about. It can't be good for long term battery health to do frequent fast charging.

While you can’t always get 175 kW, faster charging is always better. The car future proofs itself as infrastructure improves.

On paper, it sounds great, but where are these 175 kW chargers? The highway chargers I've seen are most of the time way slower.

It’s a game changer; 20 minutes is all the time you need for a snack and bathroom break. Perfect for road trips.
