Can the Skoda Elroq's interior tech and features give more premium EVs a run for their money?

As standard, the Skoda Elroq has a range of modern interior features, including a 5-inch digital cockpit and a 13-inch infotainment system. Additional tech includes an augmented reality heads up display, wireless phone charging and advanced driver assistance systems, something offered on higher trims. Also, sustainability is emphasised in the interior, with seat upholstery being made from Recytitan, a material consisting of 78% recycled PET bottles. But in car technology and premium features are becoming a more competitive ground in the EV market. Large touchscreens, frequent software updates and the push for interior comfort and tech integration, are all things that brands like Tesla have set the bar high for, as have luxury automakers. From how those tech features perform in real world use, how intuitive its user interface is, to how it blends high tech with Skoda's practicality pedigree, the Elroq's success depends on it. Can the Elroq stand out in a market where tech features are becoming a key differentiator?

The tech lineup is impressive, and that AR heads up display is what impresses me. Skoda is stepping up their game, and it’s great to see. So let’s be real, at the end of the day, it’s all about the software experience. All that fancy hardware won’t mean much if it’s laggy or unintuitive.

As a tech enthusiast though, I’m more interested in how often Skoda plans to update the software. The car feels fresh because Tesla is updating it constantly. Will Skoda commit to long term software support?

Nice touch with the sustainable materials, but don't know how durable will be. Will the recycled upholstery stand up to the test as well as traditional materials? Eco bragging rights don’t matter as much as practicality.

You're all looking at the wrong things. The real question is how well all this tech works with our everyday lives. Does it simply integrate with our phones? How's the voice control? The user experience will be made or broken by that.

In fact, I'm relieved that Skoda isn't going overboard with the tech. Not all want a spaceship dashboard. Sometimes simple and functional is good, especially for us who do not know about technology.

It's nice to have the 13 inch screen, but 13 inches is becoming the bare minimum these days. What I’m actually more interested in are unique features. What does it have that is unique and innovative?

I’ve test driven a lot of EVs and it’s not about the biggest screens or most features, it’s about what you need. It's about how well they all fit together. But if Skoda can get the user experience right, they've got a winner.
