Can the Aprilia SR 160's storage capacity actually limit its practical everyday usage?
The Aprilia SR 160 certainly shines in terms of performance and style, though its suitability for everyday use, especially in terms of practicality by virtue of storage has been questioned. Unlike other scooters in the market, which boast of spacious under seat storage, the SR 160’s sporty design comes at the cost of this feature. For riders who count on the scooter every day – for that daily commute, a trip to the grocery store or a way to haul work necessities – this can be a big factor to consider. There are some owners who have found creative solutions like aftermarket storage accessories and others who will tell you that limited storage is a fair trade for the performance capabilities of the scooter. This is a great topic for discussion about the balance of style, performance, and practicality in scooter design, and whether the likes of the SR 160 are practical all purpose daily riders.
It also definitely has limited storage space, but I’ve learned to work around it. For most things I use a backpack and only use the under seat storage for essentials. I'm willing to compromise that ride quality for it.
I find it to be a huge limitation for me. My half face helmet is too big for the seat. For the price of a scooter, I expected a bit more storage. While it’s not really practical for everyday use.
I put a top box on mine and that took care of most of the storage problems. Of course it doesn't look as sleek, but at least I can use it to run to the grocery store and such. Finding the right balance is all it is.
I’m actually not even that bothered by the lack of storage. I didn’t buy the SR 160 for hauling groceries, I bought it for the performance. However, if you need a lot of storage space, then this isn’t the scooter for you.
It’s not ideal, but it’s doable. When I need more storage I use a magnetic tank bag and it doesn’t ruin the looks of the scooter.
It’s annoying that the storage is limited, but it’s not a deal breaker. Using a good quality backpack solves most problems. It also makes the scooter look sleek.
I believe that people overblow the storage issue. It’s not the most spacious scooter out there, but it does have room for the basics. And let’s be real, you don’t buy an Aprilia for its storage capacity.
I do miss the extra storage as someone with a more practical scooter. The fun factor of the SR 160 however makes up for it. It's all about priorities.
