Can Mahindra really provide the promised 450km range for the BE.07?
With the larger 80kWh battery option, Mahindra claims the BE.07 will be capable of up to 450km of WLTP certified range. It’s an ambitious figure for a vehicle of its size and class, particularly as Mahindra has little experience with long range EVs. The claim is backed by the INGLO platform and partnership with VW for battery tech, but real world range can be a long way short of WLTP figures. Such factors like India’s climate, traffic norms and driving behavior can play a very big role in restricting the real world of your electric vehicle. The question then becomes how does this range hold up over time as the battery degrades. Is Mahindra being too optimistic with this range claim or have they actually cracked the code for long range efficient EVs? But how will this promised range translate to real world usage in Indian conditions?
I’ll believe it when I see it, but 450km sounds great. What they claim is never the real world range.
I think with VW's tech behind them they actually might pull it off. The MEB platform is no joke.
That’s still pretty good for an Indian EV, even if it’s 350km in real world. Baby steps, people!
What I’m more concerned about is how that range holds up after a couple of years of use. Battery degradation is real.
If you drive like a grandma with the AC off, it'll probably hit 450km. This isn’t very realistic for most people.
The real question is what that 80kWh battery will cost. Great range, but if that makes the car unaffordable, it's not so great.
I think they can do it. Mahindra has been putting a lot of money into EV tech. It could be their breakthrough.
I'll see how it does in peak Delhi summer with the AC turned on full blast. That's the real test of EVs in India.
