Can India's notorious road conditions be survived by the AFEELA 1?

India’s road infrastructure is challenging for vehicles, particularly high tech ones like the AFEELA 1. Whether you’re driving on pothole riddled streets of major cities or gruelling rural roads, the driving conditions can be harsh and unpredictable. Also, extreme temperatures, monsoon flooding and dust can impact vehicle performance and life. The collaboration between Sony and Honda, AFEELA 1, unites the two parts of the puzzle: consumer electronics know how and automotive know how. But it’s unclear how well this combination will fare on Indian roads. For instance, the vehicle’s sensors and AI have to be specially calibrated for Indian conditions. The second question is: what about maintenance and repairs for a technologically advanced vehicle in places where the service infrastructure is limited?

No chance. The fancy gadget on wheels will break down more quickly than a sandcastle in a monsoon. It's made for the smoothest of highways, not for our pothole obstacle courses.

Honda has more expertise than you think. For years they've been making cars for India. I bet they took our road conditions into account during development.

It could survive, but what cost? Outside of major cities, maintenance and repairs for all that high tech stuff will be a nightmare.

It's going to do better than we think it will. In reality the AI could help bypass tricky road conditions without damage. It’s like your car has a super smart driver.

We can’t forget that Tesla’s managed okay in India. If they can do it, why not the AFEELA 1? The only thing is proper localization and testing.

It will be a real test of how it will handle water logged roads during monsoons. I'd be impressed if it can survive that without frying its circuits.

You're all missing the point. After all, the target audience for this car probably isn't going to be driving it on bad roads. This is a city car for the elite.
