Are people right about the jerky fuel mapping and throttle response on the FZ-09?

by @sukhmandeepover 1 year ago0 views9 answers
Yamaha FZ-09 used to have a bit of a reputation for snatchy throttle and abrupt power delivery, especially in the earlier models. This has been a hot topic amongst riders and potential buyers. Others report unpredictable and jerky throttle response in the lower gears and lower speeds. Some say it’s manageable, or even enjoyable, once you get used to it. The talk often centers around if this is a deal breaker for the bike or if it’s something that can be easily adapted to or fixed. Riders argue over whether the different riding modes help with this issue, if aftermarket ECU flashes or remaps make a difference. It also discusses how this affects bike suitability towards various types of riding, city commuting, highway cruising, and spirited riding on back roads.

At first it was pretty annoying but after a few thousand miles I don't even notice it anymore. You adapt.

The jerkiness is overstated. It’s there, but it’s not as bad as some people make it out to be. Ride it before you judge it.

It’s not a deal breaker, but it’s not ideal. However, good throttle control technique does a long way in managing it.

The aggressive throttle, I actually like. Makes the bike feel alive. If you want something that is smooth and docile buy a cruiser.

It’s terrible for city riding but great for spirited runs in the twisties. It depends on how you want to use the bike.

Once you get an ECU flash it is night and day. Totally worth it and the bike transforms. This should have been like this from the factory.

It's real, but it's manageable. Start in B mode and go up. It’s all about smooth throttle inputs.

I don't think it's as bad as people say it is. Yeah it’s abrupt, but you get used to it pretty fast. That’s the bike’s character.

In A mode, it's pretty bad. At low speeds, the bike feels as though it wants to leap out from underneath you. Definitely needs a remap.
