With the new features and engine, is the Scram 440 still a true scrambler, or is it inching closer and closer to being a standard motorcycle?

Let’s be real, these days most scramblers are more style than substance. At least with the Scram 440, they’re at least adding things that make it more enjoyable to ride.

This, to me, is a modern take on the scrambler idea. It recognizes that riders' needs have changed since the 60s and 70s but it keeps the spirit alive.
How does the Scram 440’s value proposition fare against the likes of Yezdi Scrambler and upcoming Hero Mavrick 440?

I have ridden the Scram and the Yezdi and I would say the Scram 440 feels more refined. If you’re going to keep the bike, the build quality is noticeably better.

Pure performance wise you get a lot more bang for your buck with the Yezdi. The Scram has that classic RE charm that’s hard to quantify, though.

I'm really wondering what the Mavrick 440 is like. If it can do so at a competitive price, it could be a game changer. It might be tough for the Scram to compete.

But let’s not forget that RE has a massive service network. That alone gives a lot of value, especially if you plan to travel a long time or live outside of major cities.

I believe the Scram 440 is in the sweet spot of features to price. It is not trying to be the most powerful or the most cheap, but it does provide a well rounded package.
How does the Scram 440’s value proposition fare against the likes of Yezdi Scrambler and upcoming Hero Mavrick 440?

I have owned multiple REs and resale value is a big factor. The Scram 440 should retain its value better than its competitors.
How does the Scram 440’s value proposition fare against the likes of Yezdi Scrambler and upcoming Hero Mavrick 440?

Powerful, the Yezdi is, but power is not everything. I think the Scram 440 is smoother, and has better ergonomics, making it more fun to use on a day to day basis.

The Scram 440 just feels like a more mature product and I'm leaning towards it. I think, first of all, the Yezdi and Mavrick are first gen models, and RE has been refining this platform for years.
The Scram 440 is it just a Scram 411 with beef, or does it bring something new to the table?
13 January 2025 09:02
It honestly feels like more than a beefed up 411. Where the engine is noticed if anything is the extra oomph even in the mid range. Also, you get a 6 speed gearbox that makes highway rides a game changer.
The Scram 440 is it just a Scram 411 with beef, or does it bring something new to the table?

I'd say it's a half step forward. Everything is an upgrade, but it's still very much in the same vein as the 411. What I was hoping for was something radical, like traction control or riding modes.

I'm actually pretty excited about the 440 as a Scram 411 owner. The alloy wheel option alone makes it that much more practical for daily use, and those LED lights are a great addition for night riding.

I think it's smart that it's definitely trying to be more urban friendly. Not everyone wants to go hardcore off roading and the 440 seems like it’ll be great for city commutes and weekend getaways.

I'm torn. It's a clear improvement over the 411 on one hand. On the other, it looks like RE is playing it safe. With the likes of the Yezdi Scrambler trying to push the boundaries, I was hoping for something more adventurous.

We should not forget that the 440 engine is also smoother and more refined. That's a big deal for long distance tourers. More comfort on those epic rides because less vibration.

I think we are missing the improved brakes and suspension. At first, these may sound like little changes, but they can have a big impact on how the bike responds both on and off road.
Is the Scram 440's switchable ABS actually going to make it more off road capable or is it just a marketing gimmick?
13 January 2025 09:02
I've ridden on and off road, and I can tell you that switchable ABS is a genuinely useful thing. In some off road situations, it can also help you lock the rear wheel up, especially on steep descents.
Is the Scram 440's switchable ABS actually going to make it more off road capable or is it just a marketing gimmick?

A nice feature to have, but let's face it, most Scram 440 owners aren't going to be flying off the tarmac anytime soon. The target audience doesn't really need it, it's just a nice to have.
Is the Scram 440's switchable ABS actually going to make it more off road capable or is it just a marketing gimmick?

I think it's a bit of both. It's definitely useful for those who want to explore light trails, but at the same time it's a marketing point to make the bike seem more capable than it is.
